Looking Forward

Now that we are well into 2002, I'd like to tell you what sorts of things Malhavoc Press has in the works. The following is a calendar of Malhavoc releases and special projects. There may be more surprises beyond what you see here, but this is what we have planned right now.

Illus. Kieran YannerJanuary
The print version of Demon God's Fane should be out within a week or two. Demon God's Fane, an adventure for 14th- to 15th-level characters, works just perfectly as a capper for those playing through Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil.

February
Book of Eldritch Might II: Songs and Souls of Power will be released electronically (PDF format) in mid-month. If you liked the first Book of Eldritch Might, you're sure to enjoy this one too. It contains more arcane-related feats, prestige classes, spells, and magic items, just like its predecessor. For example, you'll find prestige classes like the arcane warrior (a character that fuses skill at arms and skills with magic -- but in very unexpected ways) and the diplomancer (the ultimate charmer and negotiator who uses both skill and spell to get his way). And that's just for starters.

However this book has twice the content of the first Book of Eldritch Might. It's not just simply more of the same -- it tackles even more difficult material and, as a design project, it proved even more challenging. For instance, it presents a new alternate version of both the bard and the sorcerer. The sorcerer has undergone some moderate revision; you'll find it more closely follows the idea that sorcerous power requires none of the regular trappings of magic. The bard however, has gone through a major overhaul. I've tried to focus the class more on music. In fact, I've included a whole new style of magic just for bards. Speaking of new styles of magic, Book of Eldritch Might II: Songs and Souls of Power also premieres the concept of soul magic, which features intelligent spells that actually help a character cast them.

March
Illus. Kieran YannerThe print edition of If Thoughts Could Kill comes out this month. It's a little later than what we told you earlier, but the delay allowed us to increase the size and cram in even more psionics material (like the variant classes you've seen on this site). What we haven't done is raise the price.

(I should also note that my adventure from Fiery Dragon Productions, Queen of Lies, also comes out this month. If you like dark elves, you'll really want to check this out. Oh, yeah, and there's d20 Call of Cthulhu from Wizards, but you already knew that!)

April
At the end of this month, we will release the electronic version of The Banewarrens, a 128-page mega-adventure. If fact, it's so huge, we might release the PDF in two parts, starting this month.

Long ago, a powerful saint gathered together a number of objects of evil power -- banes, he called them -- and buried them away so no one could ever use them. But concentrating that much evil in one place was not a good idea. Now the Banewarrens, long sealed, has been breached. But why? Who did it? And what happens next? Some people want the place sealed again, while others want to get inside -- and the PCs find themselves stuck in the middle.

Banewarrens is a plot-heavy adventure that incorporates investigation, diplomacy and dungeon exploring in a unique package. Players will never expect all the twists and turns it throws at them. Strange allies and stranger opponents come from all sides, but will anyone really be able to tell which is which and who is who? Probably not until the very last encounter...

Banewarrens is an adventure for 6th-level characters that likely will take them to at least 11th level. It includes new magic items, new monsters, and other tidbits -- such as new poisons and diseases. It also builds on material found in the two Books of Eldritch Might.

May
The print version of Book of Eldritch Might II: Songs and Souls of Power comes out.

June
In June we'll be resting (well, not really, but we won't be releasing any new Malhavoc products).

July
This month we're going to publish one of the coolest products I've worked on in a while. We're calling it Requiem for a God. What is it? Well, we've basically created a whole new type of roleplaying game product. Not quite a setting sourcebook, not quite a book of rules, not quite an adventure -- but something a little like all of them. I'm not quite ready to spoil all the surprises on this one yet. But it's going to be cool.

August
This month Sue and I will be going to Gen Con, and we hope to see a lot of you there. Assuming all goes according to plan, we'll be bringing with us a bunch of print copies of The Banewarrens to sell at the Sword & Sorcery booth. It will, of course, appear in stores this month as well.

September
As they say on TV, you heard it here first. At the end of September, Malhavoc Press releases Book of Eldritch Might III. That's right. Now, before anyone begins to think that we just can't do anything other than Books of Eldritch Might, let me tell you that this one won't be like the first two. Not exactly, anyway. This product is actually titled Book of Eldritch Might III: The Nexus. It presents a number of strange and interesting magic-centered locales that you can insert effortlessly into any campaign. Each locale not only has interesting encounters, but new spells, feats, magic items, and prestige classes tied to it.

October
We're expecting a lot of trick-or-treaters, so don't expect any new releases in October.

November
Not only will November see the release of the print version of Requiem for a God, but we'll also be publishing a brand new electronic PDF product, tentatively titled The Book of Hallowed Might. Similar to the first Book of Eldritch Might, this book contains new spells, classes, magic items, and feats -- but this time it's for divine spellcasters. About time, right? [Yeah! -- cleric-playing editor] We thought so too.

After The Book of Hallowed Might's release, I'm going to lock myself in a room for a number of months, working on a very special product. It's going to be big, and it's going to be cool. And big. And like nothing you've seen before. I can't reveal many details yet, but we're talking about a major hardcover release. I know that you're tired of hearing about secret projects from me at this point, but trust me -- this is the book that I pretty much created Malhavoc Press to write. This is the book that my work on 3rd Edition compelled me to do. It will come out in mid-2003. I'm already psyched.

It's going to be a fun year. I hope you'll stick around for it.
