Crystal
averons are products of intentional engineering. When
they are born, elder crystal averons imbed special
crystalline structures in their still-soft heads.
If the crystal successfully fuses with the creature
(which happens about 25 percent of the time), it grows
as the creature does, becoming a part of it. It also
grants the crystal averon the ability to project a
blast of mental force and a field that disrupts the
minds of others.
A
typical individual measures 6 or 7 feet in length
with a short tail. They run on all fours as often
as not. Crystal averons are tough and quick, but not
particularly strong or imposing physically.
Combat
Crystal
averons have very weak combat skills. They rely entirely
on their special crystal-based powers to defend themselves
and hunt.
Mind
Blast (Sp): This mind-affecting attack affects
a single creature within 60 feet. The victim must
succeed at a Will save (DC 12) or be stunned for 1d4+2
rounds. If attacked, crystal averons use this ability
to stun their opponents and run away. If hunting,
they use it on a small creature weak enough to kill
with their bite while it is stunned.
Scramble
Thoughts (Sp): Any creature affected by mind-affecting
attacks within 30 feet of the crystal averon must
make a Will save (DC 12) or suffer a -4 penalty on
attack and damage rolls. Crystal averons are immune
to the thought scrambling effects of others of their
kind.
Crystal
Averon Society
Although
it is a straightforward assumption that averons without
crystals, exist, no one's ever seen one. Averons live
in deep seclusion. Only the crystal averons may interact
with the outside world -- as hunters, defenders, and
sometimes as spies. Presumably, a regular averon has
the same statistics as a crystal averon but wields
no spell-like abilities.
Crystal
Averon
Characters
The
favored class of crystal averons is sorcerer. If more
than two of these creatures are encountered together,
one will always be a sorcerer and act as the leader.
Crystal
Averons With the Psionics Handbook: Crystal
averons have psion as their favored class. If more
than two of these creatures are encountered together,
one will always be a psion and act as the leader.
Attack/Defense
Modes (Sp): At will-ego whip/mental barrier.
