Psionic Feats
A
web enhancement for Hyperconscious:
Explorations in Psionics
by Bruce R. Cordell
With
feats both ostentatious and subtle, psionic characters
can enhance their prestige and power in the world,
making his will manifest by their extraordinary actions.
In
addition to presenting a wholly new adventure, complete
with feats, prestige classes, monsters, items, and
powers that support it, Hyperconscious:
Explorations in Psionics updates all the psionics
rules material from Malhavoc Press' EN World Award-winning
previous psionics books, If
Thoughts Could Kill and Mindscapes,
to v. 3.5 of the d20 System. This material is now
fully compatible with the Expanded Psionics Handbook.
The
following free web enhancement supplements the new
feats in Hyperconscious: Explorations in Psionics.
Some of the listed prerequisites for these feats come
from this book, so if you do not have it, you will
need to make some substitutions.
Bewildering
Energy [Psionic]
You use your preferred energy type with such mastery
that those who witness it are impressed to the point
of inaction.
Prerequisite:
Ability to manifest the energy missile*
power, Favored Energy†
Benefit:
When you use an energy power that specifies a
single target in conjunction with your favored energy
(cold, electricity, fire, or sonic), the discharge
of that energy is enhanced with a spectacular secondary
visual or audible display, one calculated to overawe
your foes. The foe that you strike with the energy
power is dazed for 1 round. This feat cannot be used
in conjunction with energy powers that target multiple
foes.
Hyperconsciousness
[Psionic]
You can gain acute awareness of your surroundings.
Prerequisite:
Blind-fight
Benefit:
You must maintain your psionic focus, plus spend
a standard action each round in concentration. to
use this feat. On each round you maintain both focus
and concentration, you are treated as if you possessed
blindsight 60 feet.
Latent
Psi: Protected [Psionic]
Your desire for self-preservation opens up latent
psionic ability, granting you protective powers.
Benefit:
Another latent talent for psionics wakes, granting
you the following psi-like ability:
Psi-Like
Ability: 1/daychrysalis† or slow
light†. Manifester level 1st; save DC 11 + Charisma
modifier + power level.
Special:
You can use one or the other of your latent psi-like
abilities once per dayyou can't use both. Once
you use one, you can't use the other for the rest
of the day.
Note:
Only those who already possess a smidgeon of psionic
aptitude can call upon buried latent psi feats. Latent
psi abilities cannot be augmented.
Vigilant
Dreamself [Psionic]
You a pull an echo of yourself from the dreaming Shallows
and instruct it to stay vigilant. (See Hyperconscious,
Chapter Two, for more on the Shalllows, a realm of
Dream.)
Prerequisite:Lucid
Dreaming†
Benefit:
If you have slept during the last 24 hours, a
slowly dissipating echo of your dreamself from out
of the Shallows accompanies you in the waking world.
This dreamself is immaterial and normally only visible
to yourself, but others may catch glimpses of its
shadelike form on rare occasions (Spot check, DC 25).
The vigilant dreamself trails behind you, ever watchful,
helping to alert you to dangers or interesting sights.
While you maintain your psionic focus, the vigilant
dreamself grants you a +3 Shallows bonus to your Spot
and Search checks.
The
dreamself appears (if you've slept for at least one
hour the previous night) when summoned (a standard
action). Once present, the vigilant dreamself lingers
for one hour.
Wear
Mindscape Avatar [Psionic]
Plucking your avatar from the mindscape, you wear
it like a second skin.
Prerequisite:
Suppress Avatar†
Benefit:
Each time your daily psionic power points are
rejuvenated after a period of rest, you can choose
to completely extract even the potential for your
mindscape avatar to form, instead manifesting it in
the corporeal world. For the remainder of the day
(until your next rest and rejuvenation of power points),
you may not take part in mindscape combat -- instead,
you are treated as if the enemy mindscape combatant
were using Overwhelm Buffer† on you. The next time
you rest and gain back power points, you can choose
to keep wearing your avatar, or let it fade back into
mere potential (in which case you can partake normally
in mindscape psionic combat; see Chapter One of Mindscapes
or Chapter Three of Hyperconscious: Explorations
in Psionics).
The
benefit of extracting your mindscape avatar into the
corporeal world is that it settles around you like
a second skin, potentially granting you protection.
While you maintain your psionic focus, you gain damage
resistance 2/--. Moreover, the worn avatar perfectly
overlays you and your equipment, but partly blocks
ambient light, given you a shadowy appearance even
in full daylight. This effect grants you a +2 circumstance
bonus to your Hide checks (whether or not you are
psionically focused).
