Arcana Unearthed / Diamond Throne Contest Winners

Contest PostcardThe results are in, the judges are finished, and it's all over but the celebrating. We had a number of wonderful entries, and I think I speak for all the other judges—Del Shand, Tom Lommel, and Bill Collins—as well when I say it was a hard contest to judge.

But judge it we did and below is a list of the winners. First prize, of course, is $1,000. Second-place winners get a signed copy of the upcoming Malhavoc Press product Legacy of the Dragons. I'm also pleased to report that all the winners, both first- and second-place finishers, will have their entries presented in Legacy of the Dragons for all to enjoy!! (Legacy of the Dragons is coming in PDF edition at the end of this month and in print in May.)

First Place Winner

Andy James of Gainesville, Florida—Briessec-Cur, a sibeccai greenbond/somnamancer

George Andrew James (Andy among friends) is a doctoral candidate in neuroscience at the University of Florida McKnight Brain Institute. He currently uses functional neuroimaging to study how different parts of the brain "talk" to one another when a motor skill is learned, and how this pattern of communication changes with practice and age. Andy graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1999 with Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and Psychology. An avid lifelong roleplayer, Andy is best known from online muxes as Lachesis Windwalk (Shadowrun: Seattle) and Bruiser (X-Men: Children of the Atom). Andy credits his family for his creative inspiration, especially his loving brother Neil.

Second Place Winners

J.D. Bruce of Woodland Hills, California—The Dominator, a mojh magister
Michael Trice of Austin, Texas—Denassa, a verrik akashic
Justin Jacobson of Plantation, Florida—Abalan, a chorrim warmain/oathsworn
Matthew George of State College, Pennsylvania—Kelberen, a human mageblade

Holly Gray of Davenport, Iowa—Vo-Terran, a giant unfettered/giant paragon
Chris Sims of Prescott Valley, Arizona—Paushen Pugwhistle, a sibeccai akashic/unfettered
David Davidson of Culver City, California—Algar, a mojh akashic/oathsworn
Vladimir Dzundza of Port Adelaide, South Australia—Bova, a human wolf totem warrior

As you can see from the list above, we received entries from all over the world. We were thrilled to see characters sent in from Brazil, Japan, New Zealand, Denmark, Australia, Germany, Israel, England, and Ireland, as well as the United States and Canada.

Each contestant submitted to Malhavoc Press a character created using the rules—races, classes, feats, spells, and so on—found in Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed. The Council of Magisters and I judged the entries on based on the accuracy of the character stats, the originality of the character's background, and how well the character fit into the setting provided by The Diamond Throne. If you'd like to read more about the contest, visit our official rules page.

Congratulations to you all, and thanks to everyone who entered!
