New
Book of Planes Commemorates 10-Year Anniversary
August
5, 2004 (Renton, Wash.) To celebrate the anniversary
of the much-loved AD&D Planescape® campaign
setting's release a decade ago, four of the line's popular
designers have reunited to collaborate on a new book of
planes. Monte Cook (Planewalker's Handbook, Dead Gods),
Wolfgang Baur (Planes of Chaos, In the Cage), Colin
McComb (Faces of Evil, Hellbound), and Ray Vallese
(Faction War, Uncaged) announce today's release
of Beyond Countless Doorways,
a new d20 System planar sourcebook. The book is available
now in electronic editions from Malhavoc Press.
Beyond
Countless Doorways invites you to spice up your game
with 18 imaginative new planar locations fully compatible
with v. 3.5 of the rules. These modular planes can be
used together in their own cosmological framework or separately
as part of a standard d20 fantasy game. With the planes
come associated rules, characters, monsters, items, adventure
seeds, and more. The book also includes rules for playing
planar wardens and purveyors of dichotomy and creating
parallel worlds.
The
book comes as a 224-page illustrated e-Book in both secure
and standard PDF formats. It features the black-and-white
artwork of Ed Bourelle, Kev Crossley, Eric Lofgren, and
Tyler Walpole, and a cover illustration from Planescape
veteran rk post (Dead Gods, The Great Modron March).
Beyond Countless Doorways, which also includes
a foreword from Planescape creator David "Zeb"
Cook, is suitable for characters of all levels. The book
is available at DriveThruRPG.com
(secure PDF) and the White
Wolf Online Catalog (standard PDF) for $13. Sample
the art, table
of contents, a trailer,
and other
previews free right here.
Monte
Cook started working professionally in the game industry
in 1988. For Iron Crown Enterprises he edited and designed
for the Rolemaster and Champions games.
In 1994 Monte came to TSR as a game designer, where he
wrote or co-wrote nine Planescape products, including
Dead Gods, Hellbound: The Blood War, and The
Planewalker's Handbook. As a senior game designer
with Wizards of the Coast, he codesigned the 3rd Edition
D&D and authored the Dungeon Master's Guide,
among other books.
Wolfgang
Baur is a writer and editor because he daydreamed too
much as a child, and he still sometimes hopes he'll get
to sail a pirate ship around the Horn or see a dinosaur.
Though he earned a degree as a chemist, he never used
it much. As a writer and GM, he has a morbid streak deep
enough to bury bodies in, which he used while writing
big chunks of Planes of Law, Planes of Chaos, and
In the Cage: A Guide to Sigil. He has written about
50 other game books and articles as well.
Colin
McComb started as a designer at TSR in 1991. While there,
he worked on Dragonlance, Basic D&D, and Dark
Sun, but he's proudest of co-authoring the Birthright
campaign setting and of his Planescape work, especially
Hellbound: The Blood War, On Hallowed Ground, and
Faces of Evil: The Fiends. In 1996, he moved to
the RPG division of Interplay, which later became Black
Isle Studios, where he worked on the game Torment.
He and his wife are currently collaborating on a console
gaming title.
In
1994, Ray Vallese joined TSR, where he edited, wrote,
or co-wrote a number of titles for the Planescape
line, including Uncaged: Faces of Sigil, Faction War,
Something Wild, Hellbound: The Blood War, Dead Gods, Faces
of Evil: The Fiends, and the novelization of the computer
game Torment. As a freelancer, he's edited Star
Wars and D&D books and website content for Wizards
of the Coast.
