April
17, 2003 (Renton, Wash.) -- Today Malhavoc Press releases
its second event book: When
the Sky Falls, by award-winning game designer
Bruce R. Cordell. The new book presents guidelines for
sending a meteorite strike crashing down on your campaign
word. When we asked Bruce why anyone would want to do
that, he simply replied: "Because it's cool!"
When
you see When the Sky Falls, we think you'll agree
that adventuring has never been cooler than when it comes
streaking down from outer space. This event book serves
as a guide for DMs and players whose world is struck,
and struck hard, by a meteor. Following the model of the
popular event book Requiem for a God, When the
Sky Falls presents a variety of new prestige classes
for characters close to ground zero, a variant magic system
powered by residual meteor fragments, and many new feats
and spells. It also describes frightening new monsters
-- creatures twisted by their proximity to the Afterfall.
When
the Sky Falls comes as a 64-page illustrated PDF file
with a streamlined page design to minimize file size for
faster downloading and conserve ink for quicker printing.
The book features the black-and-white artwork of Kieran
Yanner and a cover illustration from Alan
Pollack. This electronic edition, regularly priced
at $9, is available now from online retailers for the
sale price of only $7. The book is suitable for characters
of all levels and any fantasy campaign. Fans can sample
the table of contents,
as well as previews of the
art and a new monster free.
Born
in Watertown, S.D., Bruce Cordell holds a degree in Environmental,
Population, and Organismic Biology from the University
of Colorado. While working as a Research Associate in
process chemistry he learned to synthesize DNA, but he
couldn't resist the call of game design. In 1995, after
a few years as a freelancer and designer of online text-generated
virtual worlds, he abandoned science for a designer position
at TSR (now Wizards of the Coast). His many design credits
include the Psionics Handbook, The Sunless Citadel,
Epic Level Handbook, and the Origins Award-winning
Return to the Tomb of Horrors. He won the 2002
EN World d20 System Award for Best Adventure for his first
Malhavoc psionics title, If
Thoughts Could Kill. Bruce lives in Seattle, Wash.,
with his wife Dee and their dog and five cats. He is hard
at work on his second novel. To read more about him, visit
his website.
