Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed Demo Adventure
 We
want you to experience a whole new take on your favorite
fantasy game rules with the debut of Monte Cook's Arcana
Unearthed. "Between Life and Death" is a 5th-level
demo adventure by Monte Cook. It showcases this variant
player's handbook -- rules you know, with all-new character
classes, races, feats, spells, and more. Compatible with
3rd Edition and Revised 3rd Edition rules.
Between
Life and Death is an adventure intended to be used as
an introduction to Monte Cook’s Arcana Unearthed
for 5th-level characters. In it, you’ll find everything
you need to get started, including six pregenerated characters.
The adventure assumes that the DM has read Arcana Unearthed
and is fairly familiar with the material. The players do
not need to have read the book, but should be familiar with
3rd Edition rules (or 3.5).
However,
you can also use this as an adventure for players experienced
with Arcana Unearthed. You’ll find it to be
a fun scenario to insert into a campaign. DMs, note that
it fits right into the Diamond Throne setting.
Along
with the adventure, we have a short Arcana Unearthed
Quick Reference Guide for DMs new to this variant player's
handbook. Thanks to the Council of Magisters for assembling
this handy document.

What
is Malhavoc Press?
Malhavoc Press is game designer Monte Cook’s
game imprint devoted to the publication of unusual magic,
monsters, and evocative game elements that go beyond traditional
fantasy. Malhavoc Press products exhibit the mastery of
the 3rd Edition rules that only one of its original designers
can offer. Most current titles are available to purchase
as print editions or in electronic (PDF) format online.
Doesn't
Monte Cook work for Wizards of the Coast?
Monte Cook started working professionally in the game
industry in 1988. In the employ of Iron Crown Enterprises,
he worked on the Rolemaster and Champions
games as an editor, developer, and designer. In 1994 Monte
came to TSR as a game designer. As a senior game designer
with Wizards of the Coast, he codesigned the new edition
of Dungeons & Dragons, authored the Dungeon
Master’s Guide, and designed the Book of Vile
Darkness and the d20 version of Call of Cthulhu.
For WizKids Games, he designed the HeroClix system
of superhero combat. He left Wizards in 2001 to start

Are
Malhavoc's authors all former Wizards employees?
Monte writes most of the titles that Malhavoc Press
publishes. However, we are fortunate enough to publish
titles from some talented writers Monte used to work with
at Wizards of the Coast. Bruce R. Cordell is still a senior
game designer there. Sean K Reynolds coauthored the Forgotten
Realms campaign setting, among other books, but now
works for Black Isle Studios. Both these authors have
books on our release schedule.
Will
my customers want to buy Malhavoc Press products from
me when they can get them as PDFs online?
YES! Sales figures for our print products are among
the strongest of all d20 publishers. We have found that
the majority of our PDF customers (1) don't have access
to a good game store, (2) say they wouldn't have bought
the print book, or (3) look at the PDF as a preview, then
purchase the print product when it becomes available.
Offering PDF titles has actually helped our sales, rather
than hurt them.
Where
